Assessment of Ergonomic Decencies, at Work Dentists

In recent times ergonomics has become a popular term. The term has been used with most professions but increasingly in the dental profession. It is a Greek word ERGO means work and NOMIC means natural law; precisely ergonomics is defined as relationship among the personnel, equipment, environment and designing of the working area.

Dentistry is a profession in which all the dentists worldwide are commonly affected with health hazard like musculoskeletal disorders which hinders their clinical practice resulting in early retirements. Dental personnel are at an increased risk of developing such disorders. According to WHO musculoskeletal disorder is define as a disorder of the muscles, tendons, peripheral nerves or vascular system not directly resulting from an acute and instantaneous event. The treatment involves a combination of orthodontics and maxillofacial surgery.  Orthognathic Surgery It is used to correct dentofacial deformities that cannot be treated with acceptable results by conventional orthodontics. The first description of a surgical intervention to correct a malocclusion was by Hullihen in 1849. The most frequently used surgical procedures for correcting the relationship of the jaws are Le Fort I osteotomy and sagittal ramus split osteotomy. Micro-Implant Anchorage for Orthodontic Treatment of Bialveolar Protrusion

Conventional methods of reinforcing orthodontic anchorage have several disadvantages, including complicated appliance design and the need for exceptional patient cooperation. Kanomi and Costa et al.   introduced the use of titanium microscrews and miniscrews for orthodontic anchorage. Microscrews are small enough to place in any area of the alveolar bone, easy to implant and remove, and inexpensive.    In addition, orthodontic force application can begin almost immediately after implantation. In particular, microscrews have been shown to produce en masse retraction of the six anterior teeth. So it was decided to use micro-implants to treat a patient having Class 1 bialveolar protrusion where anchorage demands are critical. The patient, a 15-year-old female, had a convex profile and a Class I skeletal pattern with bialveolar protrusion Cephalometric analysis showed an ANB angle of 4°, a mandibular plane angle (FMA) of 20° and facial angle of 88°.
