Nanotechnology is a relatively new branch of science that gained popularity in the recent times. Nanotechnology basically involves nanoscale manipulation of properties of matter. Nanotechnology is based on the fact that the properties of an element or compound changes considerably or can be manipulated easily when it exists in its nanoform i.e. the diameter of particle is in the range of 1-100nm. Nanotechnology is gradually breaking all boundaries and is finding increased applications in diversified fields, viz. surface science, micro-fabrication, nano-medicine, energy production, nano-electronics, molecular biology and engineering. In addition, scientists are also researching to access the possible cytotoxic and genotoxic effects of nanoparticles and subsequently devising methods pertaining to controlling these toxic effects, by making modifications in the manufacturing process or through post production chemical changes.
